About the event

Join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary Not Your Model Minority, featuring a post-screening discussion with filmmaker Jon Osaki; Cathy Yasuda, Executive Director of the Treasure Valley Community College Foundation; and Daniel Liera-Huchim, Director of Equity and Student Relations at Treasure Valley Community College.

Jon Osaki is an award-winning filmmaker and longtime social justice activist who uses storytelling to educate, organize, and inspire action. This event is a meaningful opportunity for people of all backgrounds to reflect upon the shared responsibility of dismantling prejudice and creating a more equitable society.

Not Your Model Minority explores the many ways the model minority myth has been used to create a wedge between communities of color and perpetuate divisive narratives. By exploring the origins of the myth and its intersections with past and present anti-Asian violence, the film reveals opportunities to build power and make progress toward addressing systemic racism in America.
