The Second Annual Day of Remembrance Proclamation Signing Ceremony Hosted by Idaho Governor, Dirk Kempthorne, at the Idaho Capitol Building
February 19, 2003
Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne signed a
proclamation commemorating February 19, 2003 as a
"Day of Remembrance" for those who were incarcerated in the internment camps
and Japanese Americans who served in the military during WWII. On February 19, 1942,
President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 that sent 120,000 civilians of Japanese descent
to internment camps. A no-host lunch followed the ceremony at a nearby restaurant.
