Early spring scene at the Minidoka Wartime Relocation Center.
Frances Stewart Photograph, Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley.

Mud
I start to school in the morning,
And my shoes are Spic-and-span
When I come home at noon-time
They're like a muddy van.
I wish the mud would go away
And all the muddy pools,
But I guess that nothing can
Fix that up,
Including all the tools.

Poem written by 6th grade girl at Minidoka elementary school.
